A Right Royal Anniversary!

29 April 2016

By Sarah

It seems just five minutes ago that I was enjoying the pomp and pageantry of Kate and William’s wedding, albeit not from Westminster Abbey but from my sofa. Incredibly, they’re celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary on April 29th and two adorable children on, seem very much in love.

I can't imagine the Duke and Duchess will be allowed to forget their anniversary. However, research reveals it's among the top things us lesser mortals forget. And, perhaps not surprisingly, men aren't quite as good at remembering as women.

Those of us that do remember, apparently spend more as we clock up the marriage milestones. From a £50 spend on a five-year anniversary, to £392 on our 25th wedding anniversary, rising to royally-flush spouses spending over £600 on a 60th (diamond) celebration.

"I was surprised to read it's couples over 55 who are ditching the old anniversary traditions"

Another study suggests that wedding-anniversary traditions like Gold, Silver and Tin are being shunned with more of us preferring to exchange more personal gifts. I was surprised to read it's the over 55s who are ditching the old traditions.

I've been married for 14 years and like to mix up the old and new. We challenge ourselves to buy a gift to match the anniversary milestone, from an origami kit for our Paper wedding to a behind-the-scenes tour of Lords for our 5th 'wood' anniversary (a tenuous tie-in with cricket bats). Our crystal anniversary is coming up this Christmas, so all suggestions are gratefully received!

To my mind, whether you're a traditionalist, new romantic or royal, nothing says 'Happy Anniversary' better than flowers. I've discovered that it's not only precious gems and metals that mark significant anniversaries, flowers do too - from carnations for a 1st anniversary, to roses for a 15th and lilies for a 30th.

To mark your wedding anniversary, we have a gorgeous array of floral bouquets and gifts - from a white rose and pink alstroemeria Champagne Sorbet bouquet complete with a box of indulgent chocolates to a cerise rose, blue statice and white lisianthus Sweetheart FloralCard for £24.99.

Here's wishing you many, many more years of wedded bliss, Kate and Wills!
