ChristmasJumper Day

It’s that time of year when you need to grab your jazziest and snazziest jumper and celebrate a very special annual event. Yep, it's Christmas Jumper Day 2023!

In case you’ve not heard of it before, this event is organised by the Save the Children charity. All they’re asking is for people to pop on a Christmas jumper for the day and donate £2 – simple! Whether it’s at school, in the office or even out walking the dog, it’s time to get your festive woollies on.

When is Christmas Jumper Day?

Let’s start with the important bit – when exactly is Christmas Jumper Day? This year, the big event takes place on Thursday 7th December 2023. Don’t worry if this date doesn’t work for you, you can wear your Christmas jumper on another day that’s best for you.

Did you know that Save the Children has been organising its Christmas Jumper Day since 2012? In that time, they have raised a whopping £35 million for children in the UK and around the world. Last year alone, over 2 million school children and 24,000 workplaces took part with the charity raising a total of £5 million.

So, what do they do with all your kind donations? They believe that every child should be given the chance to live the magical future they deserve, so your money goes towards helping deliver that dream. Whether it’s providing medicine, good food or providing education it’s all about transforming children’s lives for the better.

How can you take part in Christmas Jumper Day?

At Flying Flowers we are all about spreading smiles. If taking part in an event means you can wear your favourite Christmas Jumper whilst also making lots of children smile, then we’re definitely up for getting involved!

If you want to take part, the first place to start is by signing up. Head over to the Save the Children website and set up your JustGiving where your donations will automatically be paid to the charity. Your JustGiving page will also include a QR code to help make raising money as easy as possible. Next up, encourage everyone to wear their jumper and donate to your JustGiving page.

Now for the exciting bit, get your own Christmas jumper ready! If you haven’t got one to hand, don’t worry there are plenty of options and it doesn’t always need to be a brand-new purchase. In fact, a deliciously sustainable option is to pop into your local charity shop and grab a preloved jumper. This way not only will the jumper be loved again, but it also means you’re donating to two charities – we love it!

Have you already got an old Christmas jumper waiting for you in your wardrobe? Fancy giving it a festive facelift? You can easily add in lots of seasonal decorations such as tinsel, pom poms or gift wrap bows. You could even get yourself a plain jumper and wrap a huge ribbon around your waist and shoulders. Ta, da, you’re a giant Christmas present!! Let’s be honest, on Christmas Jumper Day, the crazier the idea, the better.

If you’re more of a crafty wizard and fancy giving yourself a little challenge, why not have a go at knitting one for yourself. You’ve just about got enough time if you get busy with the needles. This way you can personalise it to exactly the way you want, exploring with an array of colours and patterns.

Other ways to celebrate Christmas Jumper Day

If you want to make your Christmas Jumper Day have that extra sparkle (and hopefully get generous donations), here are some other great ideas to get everyone involved in the fun.

Jumper Design Competition

Run a competition to get everyone to design and make their own Christmas jumper. Prizes can go to the best design, craziest design and weirdest item attached to the jumper. If you need an idea for the prize, consider treating them to a gift from our festive range.

Jumper-Shaped Biscuits

Get baking and make yourself a load of jumper-shaped biscuits (the gingerbread variety if you want to stick with the Christmas theme), then have some office-fun as people get to decorate them and make their very own jumper design. We think everyone at work will appreciate you bringing these in to share - a smile with every bite!

Jumper Garland Decorations

Don’t limit the jumpers to the ones you wear. Why not go jumper-crazy and create a garland out of paper jumpers. All you need is some string and thick card, then cut out the jumper shape, decorate and fix to the string.

Christmas Quiz

Hold the ultimate Christmas quiz – perfect for the workplace or ideal on Teams if you work remotely. Select the quizmaster, round up the festive questions and get everyone involved. Add in a prize for the winner to get the competitive juices flowing!
