At Flying Flowers, we’re proud to bring you beautiful British-grown peonies every summer. These seasonal favourites come to us via our trusted flower supplier MM, who work closely with New Horizon Flowers, one of the UK’s leading peony growers.

Run by Ben, Laura and their team, New Horizon Flowers is a small but mighty flower farm that produces around 99% of the British peonies we use in our summer bouquets. Their blooms are as fresh and natural as it gets. Grown with care, , and with a strong focus on sustainable farming practices, stems are hand picked straight from the field, making the blooms as fresh as you can get.

By buying British flowers you are supporting those who have a focus on sustainable farming practices, and helping the environment by reducing the number of flowers that are imported to the UK from around the world. Our flowers never sit in a cold store for more than a couple of days after being harvested, compared with imported flowers that can be cold stored for a number of weeks, meaning customers are getting fresher blooms that will last longer in the vase at home as well as helping the environment- a win win!

A Family Farm with a Big Heart

New Horizon Flowers isn’t a commercial powerhouse with endless greenhouses and big offices. In fact, Ben’s “office” is the field itself. This hands-on approach, paired with generations of farming knowledge, is what makes his peonies so special.

The land and tunnels were inherited, but the New Horizon Flowers team has transformed the space into a haven for hardy, healthy flowers grown in harmony with nature.

The company was founded by Gordon Flint, whose horticulture career spans over four decades, he still checks in frequently and lends a hand when needed but it’s Ben and his team who leads the day-to-day operations. With a range of tractors to handle the different row sizes, and a deep understanding of the land, Ben grows his peonies the traditional way with care, passion, and pride.

12 Varieties of Summer Beauty

New Horizon Flowers grows over 12 varieties of peonies, including:

  • Immaculee
  • Sarah Bernhardt
  • Monsieur Jules Elie
  • Solange – Ben’s personal favourite

Each variety has its own charm. Solange  for example, is nicknamed the “marshmallow peony”. It may look a little odd before blooming, but once it opens, it transforms into something soft, fluffy, and stunning. A true ugly duckling turned swan. Some peonies even grow multiple blooms on a single stem, making them perfect for full, luxurious bouquets.

Grown with Sustainability in Mind

New Horizon Flowers’ farm is a shining example of sustainable British flower farming.

  • Clover is planted between peony rows, enriching the soil and improving its structure as well as attracting bees and other pollinating insects.
  • They have moved to precision spray and fertiliser application equipment, which has resulted in reduced applications.
  • Rows are widely spaced to give the peonies room to grow strong, healthy, and huge
  • Soil health, sustainable farming practices and working with Mother Nature is at the forefront of everything the team do.

This eco-conscious farming method means more than just gorgeous flowers, it’s better for the planet too.

Working with Nature, Not Against It

Ben, Laura and their small team (just two main helpers) are in the fields every day. They don’t rely on a lot of fancy tech, just Gordon’s extensive expertise, experience, and a lot of patience. Despite challenges like late frosts, which can damage sensitive varieties like Red Charm, 2025 has been one of their best years yet.

Although New Horizon doesn’t sell directly to the public, their peonies reach your doorstep through our trusted supply chain. MM, our specialist flower supplier, works directly with Ben to source the freshest blooms at just the right moment. That means that you receive peonies that are vibrant, full, and ready to delight.
